Coffin Bean is a Halloween café game made for children. We collect as little as we can: no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page explains what the game does with information, in plain words for parents and carers.
Who we are
Coffin Bean is published by Imperial AI Limited, a company in the United Kingdom. We decide how information in the game is used (we are the "data controller"). Contact us at support@imperialai.ai.
What we collect and why
- A nickname. When you play with a friend, you type a name so the game can show who is who. It can be made up. Please do not use a real full name. In a web browser, solo play and lessons also send the name (or a default one) to our server. In the phone app they run on the device and send nothing.
- Café codes. Playing with a friend creates a short four-letter code so your friend can join.
- Game state. While a game is running our server keeps what the game needs: the players' nicknames, where they are standing in the café, the orders and the score. It is held in the server's memory only (we do not write it to a database). It is deleted when a game has been idle for 30 minutes, or when the server restarts.
- Technical logs. Our server keeps short logs to keep the game running and to stop abuse. A log line holds the kind of request, the time, the result, how long it took, and the IP address of the device. Logs do not contain nicknames or anything you type, and room codes are scrambled so they cannot be read back. The server keeps only a small rolling set of recent logs, which is overwritten as it fills up. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, also processes IP addresses to deliver the website and game service (see "Other companies").
We use this information only to make the game work and to keep it safe. We do not use it to build profiles of children.
What stays on your device
The game saves some things in your device's own storage. They are not sent to us: your level progress and stars, the name you last typed, your avatar from the Customise screen, your sound settings, and a temporary note of your seat in a game so a refresh can rejoin it. You can erase all of it by clearing the site's data in your browser, or by deleting the app.
In the phone app, solo play and the lessons run entirely on your device, with no internet needed and nothing sent to us. Playing with a friend needs the internet.
The game does not use cookies.
What we do not do
- No accounts, passwords or sign-in.
- No adverts.
- No tracking or analytics, and no crash-reporting services.
- We do not sell your data or share it for marketing.
- No third-party SDKs in the app.
- We do not ask for or use your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. The only permission the app uses is internet access.
- There is no chat. Players cannot send each other messages.
Children
Coffin Bean is designed for children and does not need any personal details to play. We ask children to use a made-up nickname and never their real full name. We do not knowingly collect contact details, photos or locations from anyone. If you think a child has put personal information into the game, or you would like us to delete anything, email us and we will help. Because we keep so little, for such a short time, there is usually little to find, but we will check.
Other companies who help us
- Cloudflare, Inc. delivers our website and sits in front of our game server. It sees the IP address and basic details of each request (such as the browser type) as part of delivering and protecting the service, under its own privacy policy. The phone app also fetches the intro videos from our website.
- Our game server is run by us, behind Cloudflare.
- Apple runs the App Store and may collect its own information when you download the app, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Google runs Google Play and may collect its own information when you download the app, under Google's privacy policy.
Cloudflare may process data outside the UK. Links in the app that go to other websites open in your device's browser, after a grown-up answers a quick question; those sites have their own policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how it is used. A parent or guardian can do this for a child. Email support@imperialai.ai. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how the game handles information we will update this page and its "last updated" date.
